The Picasso exhibition – “The time of conflict”:

“Picasso-Mediterranean” is an international cultural event that began in 2017 and until 2019: more than seventy institutions have imagined together a program around the work “stubbornly Mediterranean” by Pablo Picasso. Thus, the Picasso Museum has granted an exceptional loan of 37 works to the Carré d’Art, museum of contemporary art in Nîmes. The works on display relate to the times of political turmoil during the Second World War, and evoke the political commitment of the artist. The exhibition also proposes to establish a dialogue between Picasso’s works and other contemporary artists.

The Great Roman Games: May 3 to 5

Nicknamed the “French Rome”, Nîmes has the best preserved Roman monuments in the world. This exceptional heritage provides an ideal backdrop for hosting a spectacular weekend’s pageant over a weekend. Coming from all over Europe, 500 reenactors join the fervor of the public to make the Great Roman Games a rendezvous now expected each year. The theme of this new edition: The Barbarian Kings! Demonstrations on horseback, chariot races and gladiator fights in the Arena, military parades in the heart of the city, Roman bivouac, theme tours, exhibitions, conferences … Book your tickets!

“Pompeii, a forgotten story”: from April 6th to October 6th

With this exhibition event, the new Museum of Romanesque Nimes invites visitors to relive the last days of Pompeii, a major city tragically destiny, immortal symbol of the power of Rome. The temporary exhibition “Pompeii, a forgotten story” recounts this little-known episode, considered today as the first documented case of rescue of civilians by a military force. Opened last June, the Museum of Romanity welcomed 170,000 visitors last year. Located in front of the Arena, in the heart of the city, this new equipment is a major asset for the radiation of Nîmes.

The Festival of Arenas: from June 23 to July 20

Summer in Nîmes happens in music! Every year, the Nîmes festival transforms the arena into a pop / rock scene for a series of outdoor concerts. Find each night internationally renowned artists in the unique setting of this historic monument. In the middle of the conserved architecture of the Arena, the contemporary musical scene expresses itself under the stars, to marry the historical to the festive. On the program this year, farewell concert of Elton John, Soprano, Slipknot, ZZ Top, M, and many more!

The Tour de France: July 22nd to 24th

This year, the riders of the 106th edition of the Tour de France will spend three days in the Gard for two stages and a rest day in Nîmes. For this 16th stage of the Grande Boucle, come and encourage the runners from the Arena </ strong> and their arrival at the 7 Hills </ strong>!
